CHALLENGE
 

Build a robot that can travel across an established horizontal distance in the least amount of time

 

1. Design and construct a robot to meet the challenge.

2. Keep a log of your procedures.

3. Describe how you solve any problems that arise.

4. Write a final report at the end of the Challenge.

   RULES

    

1. The robot must have no more than 2 motors

2. The robot must fit inside of 12 inch square box.

3. The entire robot begins behind the starting line.

4. When the Starter says ‘on your mark, get set, go’ the contestants press the “RUN” button.

5. A robot must wait 5 seconds after the “RUN” button is pressed before moving down the course.  A robot is allowed one false start.

6. The distance between the start and finish line will be 5 feet with a foul line 1 foot beyond the finish line.

7. The first robot to cross the finish line and stop before crossing the foul line is declared the winner by the Starter.  The Starter’s rulings are final.

8. The first robot to win two races in their heat moves on the next heat.

9. A robot that wanders off the course will be disqualified.

 

Hints:

·        Build a robot that does not turn. A longer robot, with wheels farther apart will usually go straighter.

·        Experiment with different wheels and gears.

·        Make your robot as light as possible.

·        Have fresh batteries
